My Adoption Story
My story begins in a little college town in Georgia called Athens. I was born February 17, 1977, in a local hospital. From the information I've been given, my birthmother was 15 years old. Ten days after my birth, my loving adoptive parents took me home, where I grew up. I had a private adoption through a lawyer. My parents were always supportive of me. They told me at a young age that I was adopted and gave me a little book to read about it. We watched adoption documentaries throughout my childhood and teenhood. It was always said that I'd be able to search when I "grew up". Now that I have grown up enough to go to college, I've started thinking about having children of my own someday. One of my main concerns is my medical history. I believe I have a right to know what I may give to my children. I also would like to anticipate any problems I may have when older. I was born with slight hearing loss. I am curious about finding family members that "look like me". I am curious as to what talents and or gifts I share with my birthfamily. I love my adoptive family, including all of the relatives, my parents, and my brother and sister. I consider them my "real" family and always will. This search is more about finding my beginnings and my origins than about searching for something better than I've had. I've had a wonderful upraising and will always thank my birthmother for giving me the chance to grow up in this group of people. I wish I could thank her myself.
