Mother
I am safe in your arms.
Your embrace smoothes my fears
and softens my pain.
A laugh and a sob
wheeze from my lungs,
and you tighten.
I burrow into your heartbeat.
The breath of your body
replenishes my soul.
Your voice hoods my eyes from
the viciousness of life.
I am rocked by your love
onto my own foundation,
where I proudly stand firm
and unshaken,
where a circle of love spans
my heart and reaches
tentative fingers toward the world.
