Your smile lifts me up;
Your words touch my heart.
You see me as a person and
not just a familiar face.
You make me feel special when
you stop and say hello, always ready to help,
eager to learn how I'm doing,
or what I'm thinking about.
You give me respect and trust,
knowing I'll come through to help,
making me feel loved,
not just being picked 'cause I'm nearby.
I feel comfortable talking about anything,
even the closest things to my heart.
You never scorn or laugh at my fears or troubles.
I love you because I know you love me,
not as a child, but as a friend.
When I'm lonely or feel left out,
you always bring me back in,
open for a hug and a grin.
You strengthen my faith with your wisdom
and help me to grow to be the person
I will become.
These words come straight from the heart.
